Documentation

The primary purpose of Verisk’s models is to estimate the risk of loss to insured properties from perils over the next one to five years. Verisk updates models frequently to ensure that the latest data and science are used and that data representing the past few years are appropriately weighted. Where appropriate, Verisk scientists also condition on relevant interannual and decadal-scale climate cycles and variability caused by large-scale modes of earth system variability (e.g., El Niño/La Niña Southern Oscillation cycles, the Pacific Decadal Oscillation, and Atlantic multi-decadal variability). Other robust trends in relevant local conditions due to climate changes anticipated through the period of intended model use are also accounted for.

The description document of each of the following models includes a detailed Accounting for Climate Change chapter; summaries of these chapters are also available. In addition, Verisk has created projections for a selected set of perils for time horizions beyond the next one to five years.
